The 6th grade Jazz Band will start up next Tuesday after school. There are no auditions for this group. Students who are interested just show up at 3:30 in the band room. We will rehearse every Tuesday afterschool 3:30-4:15. Our only performance will be at the Spring Jazz Concert on April 29 in the cafeteria here at Haines.

The Jazz Concert has been rescheduled for Monday May 11 at 6:30 pm at St. Charles North High School. It is at North because as soon as we are done with our concert (we will be done in about 45 minutes) North High School’s non audition Jazz Band Concert starts at 7:30. This way we have avoided at least one possible conflict with our make up date. So after our Jazz Concert you are all welcome to stick around and see the high school non audition Jazz groups. All Haines Jazz students should report to North High School at 6:00 pm Monday evening. Please follow the signs to our warm-up rooms.
Because of the delay between our last rehearsal and this new performance date, we are asking each band for a run through rehearsal on Monday morning before school to refresh our memories of the music before the evening’s concert.

Due to the closing of Haines due to the possible swine flu case the Jazz Concert is cancelled tonight. We will reschedule the concert later in May.

The Jazz Lab and Jazz Ensemble will be playing at North High School on February 12. That concert will feature both of our bands, Thompson’s Jazz Band, and SCN Jazz Workshop with special guest Trumpet player Tito Carrillo. It will be an outstanding night of Jazz that starts at 7 pm with our Jazz Lab band. The students should be at North by 6:30 for warm-ups.
Before the concert we have a great opportunity to have a clinic with Mr. Carrillo. Both of our bands will leave Haines at 2:30 (we will miss 8th hour) and play for Mr. Carrillo in a clinic from 3-4:30 that afternoon. Please download the permission slip here and return it as soon as possible.
There are two events coming up for the Jazz Lab band. Thursday January 22 we will play at the 8th grade vs Faculty basketball game. Details to follow soon. Also we will perform at St. Charles North High School on Thursday, February 12 at 7 pm. The concert will include our Jazz Lab band, our Jazz Ensemble, Thompson’s Jazz Band and the St. Charles North Jazz Workshop with special guest artist trumpet player Tito Carillo. It will be an outstanding night of Jazz at North that evening.
