Haines Music Department

This year we will be using two books for the 7th Grade Bands. On the letter sent home this summer I only listed 1 book, but in order to cover what we need to cover we need both books. They are 101 Rhythmic Rest Patterns by Grover C. Yaus, published by Belwin, and Foundations for Superior Performance, by Richard Williams and Jeff King, published by Kjos. These are available from Quinlan and Fabish 800-637-6872 (can deliver directly to Haines), PM Music 630-978-9927 (can also deliver to Haines), Full Staff Music in St. Charles (will likely be a special order rather than in stock — Main and 7th, by Dairy Queen), or the music store of your choice. One note: both books are instrument-specific so be sure to get the right book for your instrument.

 We are looking forward to an outstanding year with the 7th Grade Bands and are already off to a very good start. We will begin using these books the week of September 15, so please get them as soon as possible. Thank you!

With the new year comes a new year for our Jazz Groups!!!!
The 6th Grade Jazz Band will have it’s first rehearsal on Monday, September 29- 7:15-8 am. There are no auditions for that group, just show up and play. The only performance for the 6th grade Jazz band is April 30.

The Jazz Lab and Jazz Ensemble groups are by audition and are for 7th and 8th graders. Everyone who auditions will be placed in Jazz Ensemble or Jazz Lab. Therefore the audition is not for getting into the Jazz program, but for which band the student will be placed in. Auditions for saxophone, trumpet and trombone players are all this week (September 2-5) before or after school, with the exception of after school Friday. Students do not prepare anything for us because the audition consists of sightreading and a little improvising. Rhythm section players (drums, piano, guitar, and bass) have their auditions after school on Friday September 5 from 3:30-5 pm. We will begin rehearsals on Tuesday September 9 for Jazz Ensemble and Wednesday September 10 for Jazz Lab. Rehearsals begin at 7 am and run until 8 am. Jazz Ensemble rehearses on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Jazz Lab rehearses on Wednesdays. The first performance for Lab and Ensemble is on Thursday, October 30.
