Haines Music Department

We started sectionals this week with our 7th and 8th grade band students. Sectionals occur for a full period, once every other week on a rotating schedule. Today we had 8th grade clarinets and saxophones 2nd hour and 7th grade flute and clarinets during 3rd hour. Tomorrow we have 8th grade trumpets and horns during 7th hour and 7th grade saxophones and trumpets during 8th hour. If someone needs to miss a sectional we encourage them to make it up before or after school as soon as they can so they don’t fall behind in the assignments.

6th Grade Jazz Band starts on Monday morning!!!!
We will have our first practice on Monday, September 29 at 7:15 am in the band room. This is a non audition group. Just show up and play!!!!

We have 14 students auditioning for IMEA this year from band. The auditions at Grainger Middle School in Aurora are coming up on October 4th. There is a $5.00 per audition fee that is due soon. Please click here for a pdf version of the information letter.

The Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Lab students will be getting the order form for the t-shirts later this week in rehearsal. If you would like a pdf version of the order form please click here. Because the Jazz concert is coming up very soon, please return the order form as soon as possible.

PS Please remember that 6th grade Jazz Band will begin on Monday September 29. They do not have shirts in 6th grade as we only have one performance, that being in April.

I was disappointed that the football game at North didn’t work out this year. Due to the schedule, we do not have the opportunity to reschedule it. The lyres and flip folders you bought will be used next year. So please hang on to them.

Books- We are going to start using the Accent on Achievement book III. If you haven’t done so please call your music dealer to order the book. Full Staff and MECA should also have these books in stock.

Scale test - Just a note that we are finishing up our scale review test this week. The test is due by Friday, September 19.

Due to the weather conditions, the 8th graders will NOT be participating in the football game pre-game show with the high school band tonight. The high school band is prepared for rain like this, but obviously we are not. SO everything involving the 8th grade band at North High School tonight is canceled. NO pizza party - No game.

I am sorry to be so loud about this, but I have a very important update about the breakfast snack information. I put on the letter that I didn’t think we had any kids with a peanut allergy in the Lab band, but I did in fact miss someone. WE DO have someone who is allergic to peanuts in the group. So when it is your turn to bring in a snack, please make sure that the item does not contain peanuts or that peanut oil was used or if there is any warning about peanuts being used in the same production plant. Thank you for your consideration on this.

Just a reminder that the 8th grade band is at ST. Charles North High School this Friday night. 5 pm pizza party in the high school band room. Please remember to get the lyre and flip folder before Friday. Also please contact me if you need tickets.
