6th graders need the Essential Elements book Essential Technique, the old version, not the 2000 version. (The old version is all green and has a large E on the cover.) 7th and 8th graders need the Essential Elements book Advanced Technique. The easiest way to get the book is to contact your rental company and have them deliver it to Haines. All students need the book by the 2nd week of September. Thanks!

Concert dress for all students is as follows:
Boys: white collared button down shirt, (short or long sleeve depending on weather) black pants, black or dark dess shoes, black socks. Tie encouraged but optional.
Girls: Solid White dress top (sleeveless is fine but students must follow school dress code) black skirt or pants, nude or black pantyhose or tights, black dress shoes. Opentoed shoes or sandals are fine. Skirts need to be at least to the knee when sitting down and performing. A minimum of printing should be on the skirt. Cellists are encouraged to wear pants or a very long, voluminous skirt.

The 8th grade needs to have the Accent on Achievement Book III for this year. We will use the book in class as well for some assesments this year.

Auditions for Jazz Lab and Jazz Ensemble are the week of September 4-7. These auditions are open to 7th and 8th graders only. 6th grade jazz is not an audition group and we will start the 6th grade jazz on Monday October 1st at 7:30 am. The 7th and 8th grade saxes, trumpets and trombone players should stop in anytime before or after school and play for us. The auditions will include sightreading and playing a solo in Bb Blues. The RHYTHM SECTION audition ( piano, drums, guitar and bass ) is only on Friday September 7th from 3:30-5 pm as a group. This audition will also be sightreading. We will begin rehearsals on Tuesday September 11.

7th and 8th graders will be auditioning the week of August 27-31. Everyone is expected to audition EXCEPT oboes, bassoons, bass clarinets, horns, tubas and baritone players. Extra credit is given to students who audition on Monday and Tuesday. Students can audition before or afterschool. The audition includes scales and the piece of music included in the folder that was handed out the first day.
